Kitchens – Traditional Living
The Madeira School for Girls came to us with a major renovation project. They were looking for more than just an update, but a full transformation for their school director’s residence. The challenge was that it was not only a home, but also served as a venue for entertaining guests, board members, and other school officials. We had to come up with a design plan that worked for daily family use and for special events – informal and formal at the same time.
The key was deciding which walls needed to be removed to open everything up, but still retain the kitchen as a semi-private area when the director hosts functions. We kept the rustic style of the home and featured its natural feel with beautiful stone and wood details. The kitchen is a reflection of the stone palette used on the exterior of the house and the 5-piece aged pine that was originally in the home.
